AREA:
LOCATION:
The stretch of a wide Odra valley, 30 km long, extending from Widuchowa to Szczecin (along km 705-735). At some places up to 3 km wide.
AREA:
DESCRIPTION:
The most valuable swampy area in the Odra valley, where 16 plant communities, 168 bird species and 286 plant species have been identified. Practically inaccessible without special equipment. ???The efforts taken up in the past, aiming at drying and transformation of the area for the farming ends failed.??? Regular inundations a fine net of watercourses and flood waters ???advantage of hydrogenic soil make the whole area unuseful for farming,??? and thus - of the greatest nature value.
HABITATS:
Reed communities, swamp alder woods, willow-poplar gallery forests, oxbow lakes, lowland hay meadows (Alopecurus pratensis), small fragments of elm-ash forests.
BIRDS (BD):
Haliaetus albicilla, Milvus migrans, Milvus milvus, Circus aeruginosus*, Circus pygargus,Circus cyaneyus, Botaurus stellaris*, Ixobrychus minutus*, Ciconia nigra, Haliaeetus albicilla, Galinago galinago, Grus grus, Porzana porzana, Porzana parva, Crex crex, Philomachus pugnax, Chelidonias niger, Luscinia svesica, Alcedo atthis, Dendrocopos medius and others. Summing up the occurence of 168 bird species have been noticed on this area.

OTHER ANIMAL SPECIES:
Cerambyx cerbo (HD II, HD IV), Misgurnus fossilis (HD II), Barbus barbus (HD V), Silurus glanis (KB III), Muscardinus avellanarius (HD IV); Lutra lutra (HD II, IV).
PLANTS:
Salvinia natans (KB I), Nymphoides peltata (RB cat. V).
COMMENTS:
Protected as important bird area of European rank (E-IBA Poland 010) of total area 45000 ha. (together with D±bie lake), 120 km long, along the Odra valley from Kostrzyn to Zalew Szczeciński. At present, protected as Landscape Park "Dolina Dolnej Odry" (The Valley of the Lower Odra), (5632 ha., 1993), with transformation into bilateral (transboundary) national park.
