AREA:
DESCRIPTION:
One of the most valuable area in the whole Odra basin, in the eastern part of which big parts of lightly transformed riverine and wet mesophilous oak-hornbeam forests; characterised by high natural value. The extensive farming carried out in the whole area also results in a good state of preservation of non-forest communities, while the broad terrace between dikes along the western stretch is submitted to quite regular inundations during high water-level. The areas value has been underlined repeatedly.
HABITATS:
The area of a large biotope diversity - the eastern part under the forest complex, with the advantage of meso-eutrophic oak-hornbeam forests and dryer forms of the elm-ash forest. Also, the willow-poplar gallery forests, oxbow lakes, floodplain and hay meadows from Molinion and Alopecurion alliances, eutrophic tall herb fringes and reeds as well as sedges communities from the class of Phragmitetea occur in small pieces. In the western part there have been much fewer fragments of forests preserved, but large areas are overgrown with hay meadows (Molinion, Alopecurion), reeds and sedges, oxbow lakes and various developmental stages of willow-poplar gallery forests.
BIRDS (BD):
Dendrocopos medius, Milvus migrans, Milvus milvus, Alcedo atthis, Circus aeruginosus*, Pernis apivorus, Haliaeetus albicilla, Ciconia nigra, Ixobrychus minutus*, Crex crex, Grus grus, Picus canus, Ficedula albicollis, Aythya nyroca.

COMMENTS:
Important bird area of the European rank (E-IBAE Poland 053). Projected Odra and OławaLandscape Park which, however, is not a sufficient form of legal protection for this area. At least two big territories should be protected: Oława-Lipki polder (approximately 2500 ha.) and wide river terrace between dikes from Siedlce to Strachocin (approximately 3600 ha.). Presently, along this stretch, there are four nature reserves: "Grodzisko Ryczyńskie" (1958; 1,75 ha.), "Kanigóra" (1958; 5,12 ha.), "Zwierzyniec" (1958; 8,96 ha.) and "Łacha Jelcz" (1954; 6,9 ha.), of total area insufficient for effective protection of communities and other objects protected within their borders.
