AREA:
LOCATION:
Approximately 1,5-2,0 km from the river-bed, along km 55-60, in the vicinity of the villages Markowice and Babice.
AREA:
DESCRIPTION:
Protected as nature reserve, includes the set of the fish ponds, gradually overgrownand surrounded by the different plant communities. It displays the complete sequence of ecological succession from water communities to elm-ash forests and oak-hornbeam forests.
HABITATS:
Eutrophic lakes, adler swamp woods, alder-ash forests, rushes and sedges (Phragmitetea), floodplain grasslands belonging to Molinion alliance, meso-eutrophic oak-hornbeam forests.
BIRDS (BD):
Dendrocopos medius, Picus canus, Botaurus stellaris**, Ixobrychus minutus**, Ciconia nigra, Aythya nyroca, Circus aeruginosus**, Ficedula albicollis, Milvus migrans, Milvus milvus, Pernis apivorus, Ficedula albicollis. There were 115 hatches of different bird species noticed, including lots of these which are rare and endangered in Poland.

Misgurnus fossilis.(HD II)
PLANTS:
Trapa natans (KBI), Salvinia natans (KB I); Aldrovanda vesiculosa (historic stations, year 1964, HD II); Galanthus nivalis (HD V); Eleocharis ovata (RB cat. V), Carex bohemica (RB. cat. V).
PROTECTED:
Daphne mezereum, Hedera helix, Lilium martagon, Listera ovata, Platanthera bifolia, Nuphar luteum, Nymphaea alba, Nymphaea candida, Frangula alnus, Colchicum autumnale, Primula elatior, Epipactis palustris.
COMMENTS:
Submitted as IBA (E-IBA 058); Corine refuge; protected by law: the nature reserve "Łężczak" (1957, area 408,8 ha.)
